Building Inclusive Societies through Civic Engagement and Grassroots Activism

“Civic engagement must include transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. Human rights and justice must be at the core of every kind of thinking.”

Mrs. Farah Kabir, Country Director, ActionAid Bangladesh

In a passionate and future-focused presentation, Ms. Farah Kabir—Country Director of ActionAid Bangladesh—championed the vital role of civic participation and grassroots movements in forging an inclusive, just, and equitable Bangladesh. Her talk, “Building Inclusive Societies through Civic Engagement and Grassroots Activism,” called for a revival of public voice, particularly through youth-led initiatives and community-driven accountability.

Ms. Kabir underscored the need to reverse the erosion of civic space and instead nurture a cultural renaissance—one where human rights, gender equity, and pluralism guide the national discourse. She argued that real progress demands transparent governance and meaningful citizen involvement at every level.

“We are looking for an equitable path for development—a pluralistic approach,” Ms. Kabir emphasized.
